OPTIMA Quick Change Angle Beam Transducers & Wedges are ideally suited for use where access is limited, on relatively thin materials, or for more precise flaw location and evaluation.  The quick change feature is convenient when it is necessary to use different transducer frequencies and /or refracted angle wedges during an inspection or evaluation.

Quick Change Transducers feature smaller size circular elements, higher frequencies and a one-quarter wave impedance matching epoxy face.  The wear resistant transducer label is also frequency color coded for easy identification.

Quick Change Wedges combine our acoustically transmissive sound path material with an attenuating material in the direct path of the internally refracted sound beam.  Along with internal wedge serrations and radiused external refracting surface, the wedges are permanently engraved with refracted beam angle, centerline, and a pair of closely spaced wear-surface parallel lines which show uneven wear and possible undesired changes in the refracted beam angle.  This unique design, paired with NDT Systems' Quick Change Transducer, produces a highly noise-free transducer/wedge combination.

Standard & AWS Models (1 & 2)

OPTIMA Standard Angle Beam transducers are best suited for relatively flat, large, unconfined surfaces where greater coverage is feasible.  Common applications include weld inspection and detection/evaluation of off-axis, three-dimensional, or radially oriented flaws. Select lower frequency models for castings and other coarse-grained materials.

OPTIMA AWS Angle Beam models meet or exceed requirements of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and other common codes, standards, and specifications.

Features — Standard and AWS Angle Beam transducers feature all-metal cases for maximum durability, epoxy faces for optimum acoustic impedence matching with wedges, frequency color-coded labels, and captive screws for ease of interchanging wedges.  Damping is designed to produce an optimum combination of high gain, sensitivity, resolution and signal-to-noise when used with standard pulse-echo ultrasonic flaw detectors.

Wedges - Acrylic shearwave wedges are available in two configurations, each designed to greatly reduce internal reflection noise.  Serrated wedges integrally machined grooves that refract and scatter internal reflections; the "snail" wedge continuously refracts and reflect the internal soundbeam to, in effect, "trap" unwanted noise, providing a better signal-to-noise ratio.

Serrated wedges and snail wedges are supplied for all standard angle beam transducer models.  Only snail wedges are available for AWS transducer models.

Engraved onto the side of the wedge is the Model Number, refracted shearwave beam angle, incident beam centerline, and a pair of closely-spaced lines parallel with the wear-face of the wedge.  These lines show uneven wear, thus indicating possible undesired changes in refracted beam angle.

Mini Angle Beam Models (5)

NDT Systems' OPTIMA Mini Angle Beam Transducers are very small and permit testing in highly confined areas, on small parts and contoured surfaces, and simplify gaining access between closely-spaced fasteners.  Having a narrow, restricted soundbeam also facilitates more precise evaluation and mapping of flaws.

Features — Element and wedge are permanently mounted in a compact aluminum case with the exclusive OPTI-GRIP surface for ease of handling.  Internal serrations and bi-material wedge dampening reduce noise.  Th wedge material extends slightly beyond the case surfaces, thus permitting a small amount of wedged surface wear before replacement is necessary.

Color-coded labels permit frequency selection at a glance.  Designed with an optimum combination of sensitivity and gain, OPTIMA Mini Angle Bema transducers can be used with any standard flaw detector.
