New Compact Design!

The PortaScan 007 Ultrasonic Imaging System is perhaps the easiest to use C Scan imaging system available today. The system incorporates a fully integrated ultrasonic test instrument, dual axis motion control, Pentium based PC, and data acquisition software.  Through years of refinement, NDT Systems has developed a system so easy to use that it does not require the user to be be knowledgable in computer systems operations. So long as the user can calibrate an ultrasonic instrument for a desired test we have done everything possible to simplify the acquisition process.
With our many built in wizards, operation couldn't be easier. For instaqnce, with our  "Scan Plan" wizard we walk you through every step of setting up image acquisition. Each screen is another step in the plan building process.
Just plug one end of the integrated Control Cable Bundle into the 007 and the other end to any one of a variety of scanners. Turn the unit on, calibrate the embedded, high speed Quantum ultrasonic instrument and start scanning. It really is that easy.In 15 to 20 minutes from the time you arrive on site you will be up and running, collecting data.  Once a desired plan is in place just save the acquired data, clear scan and re-start... all from the same, simple drop down menu.

Software Features at glance....

  • 256 Color Capability for high resolution scan images. Includes full color pallet, 256 shades of gray, red, blue & green.
  • True Data Point Acquisition, not Pixel Based as in other systems.
  • User definable length and resolution, separate for X & Y axes. Data array size limited by the amount of RAM within the computer or 30,000 data points in either the X or Y axis, whichever is smaller.
  • Ability to set scan index from .005" to 2".
  • Pan and Zoom.
  • Zoom to actual numbers in Acquired Data.
  • Spreadsheet display of thickness or amplitude value.
  • Show 3D or B-Scan based on the Zoom Window.
  • Scanner acts as a mouse pointer in B-scan  window for location of indications.
  • Export data to an ASCII text or binary file on almost any grid size for input into other  application such as Excel, Quattro Pro, Lotus or Statistical packages, including Pro-Plot.
  • Software will also export the lowest value found within a user definable "grid" pattern in ASCII format. i.e. if the scan index were 0.100" X 0.100" the result would yield 100 readings for every square inch. Using the PortaScan export function, the user could request just the lowest thickness within the square inch.
  • Display of X & Y 'B'-Scan on a single screen as well as the thickness at cursor crossing.
  • Fully downward compatible with earlier versions of PortaScan software.
  • 2 Axis Motor Control as well as the ability to use manual scanners.
  • System automatically detects presence of NDT Systems' manual or automated scanners.
  • Factory can define and use new scanners in the future without software modifications for file structure
  • Software holds and displays the lowest, center or the highest value acquired (user selectable)

Main Software Functional  Overview

PS3-QBT is a simple-to-use program which generates scaled color C-Scan and 3-D (Three Dimensional) Images based on the  digital or analog test instrument signal input of material thickness or flaw depth at respective X and Y scan locations, input by the miniscanner. In addition, the PS3-QBT also allows the user to perform a scan on the amplitude of the received signal rather than the thickness

A scaled color C-Scan image is initially generated whose size and shape are operator-defined (within the specifications of the scanner model used).

Beneath the C-Scan is an adjustable, graduated thickness/depth scale with a moving pointer. Underneath this scale is an adjustable color spectrum bar (palette). The thickness/depth scale offers three selectable modes of readout: total, offset and delta (differential). Also, a slicing feature (consisting of a pair of adjustable depth markers) allows a B-Scan to be generated along a specified band. High-precision software, together with the Quantum, allow these functions to operate with "0.005" resolution, depending upon the mode and setup.

A data inset window digitally displays thickness/depth, X and Y coordinates for transducer position and selected scan size (X/Y).

A major feature is the high-speed ability of this program to store the "raw" numerical data for every acquired point in the c-scan image. This feature (a "giant" data-logger) permits any C-Scan image to be re-processed at any time for the purpose of image enhancement. Equally important, the thickness/depth digital readout can be retrieved for any desired location (via the data window) on a C-Scan image by simply moving a pair of cross hairs to that location. Also, two other pairs of adjustable cross hairs can be used for "sizing" of suspect regions.

Once a C-Scan is generated, associated, scaled color B-Scans or 3-D (three dimensional) images can be quickly displayed.  Adjustable vertical or horizontal cross hairs allow corresponding vertical or horizontal B-Scan sectional slices to be presented.  The 3-D imaging mode features a "topographical" view of the scanned material volume enhanced by perspective visual compensation (geometric) and hidden line format.  Also, to optimize the viewing angle for various image features, the 3-D image can be rotated about its 3 axes (pitch, roll and yaw).  Furthermore, each axis can be compressed or stretched from original scale to accentuate image features.

In addition to processing images with their associated "raw" test data, ultra-fast "screen captures" of an image without its test data can be selectively stored at any time in BMP, TIF or PCX formats for use in reports. See "SAMPLE IMAGES" for examples of screen captured images

The Quantum instrument permits this PS3-QBT software to be used with contact, delay line or "immersion" (bubbler/squirter) transducers to inspect products ranging in thickness from approximately 0.015" to 9.999" (material dependent).

Included is a convenient menu for storing/retrieving images along with their associated "description/comment text screen".  For a hard copy, an optional color ink jet printer is available.  Many other software features are included. Options include irregular scan definition capability (model PS-IS) and anomaly flaw sizing (model PS-FS).
